Hi, there!
I thought it would be wonderful to have more information on the setting and character creation bits than just what's contained in the first thread. That was just a placeholder.
First, a bit about the city:
VENICE! In this time period, Venice has enjoyed a little less than a century of prosperity as one of several powerful, sovereign City-States. Trade is quite vigorous in this port city. It is one of the only city-states in the region to have a robust Navy of its own. This exists to protect the trade routes from pirates in the Aegean Sea. Due to the navy's great success, Venice became the primary import point for the rest of Europe for such luxury items as glass, cinnamon, horses, silk, cotton and steel. Venetian traders grew quite wealthy well into the 14th century when certain other things were unintentionally imported. More on that later.
Next, a bit about the historical milieu:
Historically, this is the era of the Crusades. In fact, as of the beginning action of game, the city of Venice is swollen with conscripts, mercenaries and volunteers heading by sea for the 4th Crusade, which will (by late 2016 game-time) bring about the sacking of Constantinople (If you want part of this plot, LET ME KNOW! It is part of the richness of the era.) The Mongols control almost all of the Far East, particularly China and India. The Holy Roman Empire is a definite threat politically and religiously. The Eastern Church (capitol C) is expanding through Eastern Europe and clashing with the remnants of Germanic tribes as far West as Prague, while the Western Church (capitol C) has already taken hold of the nations we know as France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and the British Isles. I'll explain more as plot unfolds.
CLOSING THIS POST! Next post coming: Your Venice Court and the Vampire political system.
